Un juego absurdo con la política y por sobre todo con toda la ciudadanía ecuatoriana se está llevando a cabo por parte del Presidente Rafael Correa. Poco parece importar el enorme costo de llevar a cabo elecciones, aparte de toda la problemática que conlleva.
Este juego con la Democracia ha llegado a un nivel nunca antes visto en Ecuador. El Ministro de Gobierno, Gustavo Larrea presento hoy día Jueves Julio 5 del 2007 a una comisión de juristas que elaboran "un borrador" para la Asamblea Nacional Constituyente la propuesta de "Disolución del Congreso, y división territorial en regiones" entre las propuestas presentadas por el Gobierno.
En un acto de clara violación de la democracia "El Presidente de la Republica puede (quiere) disolver el Congreso por una sola vez (menos mal que no propone disolverlo cada semana), pero pone su cargo a disposición del pueblo ecuatoriano en esa misma elección. Si pierde se va a su casa; y viceversa, el Congreso puede destituir al Presidente, pero todo el Congreso se va a su casa, y hay nuevas elecciones" explicó Larrea.
Es impresionante que los ecuatorianos tengan un gobierno que pretenda jugar con los intereses del país de esta manera. Esto es una demostración de falta de respeto por el pueblo, por la Democracia y por la constitución. El Señor Correa no puede chantajear al pueblo, si quiere irse a su casa que se vaya si no se siente competente a asumir el cargo de la Presidencia, pero no puede poner condiciones al pueblo ni a la Democracia.
A tan solo siete meses de asumir cargos hablar de DISOLUCION de uno de los poderes del Estado es sin duda algo histórico pero absurdo. Cuando el Señor Rafael Correa asumió el poder firmo un juramento de defender la constitución y al violar la democracia está violando dicha constitución.
Existen reglas y reglamentos, existe constitución y existe los poderes del estado. Asumir el cargo de Presidente no significa gobernar como se le antoja y remover del país a quien no está de acuerdo, o si le gusta o no le gusta al ejecutivo gobernar con el Congreso, eso es la democracia, existen tres poderes del Estado y si no le gusta entonces es el Señor Correa quien debe ser removido del cargo de la Presidencia.
En otro intento de quitar y destruir la representación ciudadana el Señor Correa ha propuesto una "NUEVA" división territorial, con regiones y distritos metropolitanos. Este es un atentado a quitar la legitimidad a cada Gobierno Provincial, Prefecturas y alcaldías. No solamente quiere disolver el Congreso quiere disolver las autoridades locales. Si esto es el inició el pueblo ecuatoriano debe tomar muy en cuenta que la Asamblea constituyente bajo las mismas reglas establecidas solo puede existir por 240 días. Lo que Correa quiere es establecer las condiciones para que Ecuador caiga en la total anarquía.

An attempt against democracy in Ecuador

Dear President Bush:
I respectfully call your attention to a serious violation against democracy by President Rafael Correa of Ecuador. According to the Ecuadorian media Rafael Correa used his Saturday radio program to announce before the world that he will seek "the complete elimination of the Ecuadorian Congress." The Constitution of Ecuador, and more importantly, the very foundations of the Democratic system from the time that it was created and it came to life in Greece, and Rome's own Cesar's were chosen by their Senate, and several countries ever since have pioneered the idea and perfected the concept of Democracy at the cost of thousands of life's that have defended the Democratic ideals.
As we know, Democracy is not perfect but it’s the concept of representation of a government of the people and by the people where its very existence depends on the balance of three powers of government: The Judicial, the Legislative and the Executive Powers. When and if any of those institutions of democracy calls for the destruction of one of those powers then it is an attempt against democracy itself. The survival of Democracy itself in Ecuador depends on the balance of all democratic values and balances that have been established in the Constitution and its three powers of government.
And when Rafael Correa has pronounced himself against such values and asked for the elimination of the Legislative Power and the Congress of Ecuador under the pretext that his newly created "Asamblea" should be enough, when as a matter of fact the assembly is to be created for only 240 days. Such actions by words and deeds violate the very same foundation of Democracy and constitute an attempt of a coup by the same President. More alarming still is that there seems to be a campaign in that regard based on the pronouncement of Alberto Acosta in Madrid this very same date, when the ex- Minister of Mines and current leading representative to the newly created Assembly was echoing President Correa, calling for the elimination of Congress. I am respectfully asking that the United States voice his concerns that such attempts against democracy can not be allowed.
